About Jodhpur

Jodhpur, the "Blue City" and "Sun City" of India, is Rajasthan's second-largest city. Founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha, it was the capital of the Kingdom of Marwar. The city gets its "Blue City" moniker from the indigo-painted houses in the old city around the base of the massive Mehrangarh Fort — one of the largest forts in India, perched 400 feet above the city on a sheer cliff. Jodhpur is known for its handicrafts, especially bandhani (tie-dye) textiles, wooden furniture from the Barmer road cluster, and the savory snack Mirchi Vada. The city has a significant military presence with the Indian Air Force station at Jodhpur being one of the largest in the country.
